2017 Jones Winery & Vineyard Shiraz

Tasting Notes

The bouquet is complex with notes of spice and red berry fruits and chocolate.  The palate has great persistence of flavour; rich fruit of cherries and plums, spice and black pepper and is backed up by abundant yet fine tannins.  The complex finish has bold intensity of chocolaty, berry flavours, with length and persistency.

Winemaking Notes

Made from grapes grown in some of our older vineyards.  The grapes were harvested by from 1st March to the 6th March 2017, destemmed and then fermented in open vats with hand-plunging.  Malolactic fermentation and maturation in barrel then fined with egg white prior to bottling.  The wine was matured for 18 months in oak barrels, 30% of which was new French oak.  Alc. 15.3%, cellaring well for up to 8 years.

Food Matches

Great with cheese, game and red meat-based dishes. Try with confit duck breast or a pink rack of lamb with a herb breadcrumb crust.

Drinking Tip

With a delicious Sunday lunch on a wet wintery day with good friends and no plans except for an afternoon nap.
