2017 Jones Winery & Vineyard L.J.

Tasting Notes

Deep, crimson in colour with lovely richness and fullness of flavour. It has savoury-earthy notes, licorice and star anise with strong, spicy, savoury and ripe tannins on the finish.  Drink now or after 5-20 years. Great ageing potential.  Another classic L.J.

Winemaking Notes

Made from grapes grown in our vineyard planted in 1905. The shiraz and handful of grenache (< 5%) grapes were harvested by hand on 12th February 2016, yielding less than 1 tonne per hectare.  After de-stemming, it was fermented in open wooden vats, hand-plunged then pressed. Malolactic fermentation and maturation in barrel then fined with egg white prior to bottling.  The wine was matured for 18 months in oak barrels, 80% of which was new French oak.  Alc. 14.8/%, cellaring 5 to 15 years.

Food Matches

This wine marries perfectly with lamb, game and slow cooked beef dishes. A delight with hard cheeses and venison.

Drinking Tip

As a little reward or thank you for someone, or yourself!  Take your time to enjoy the complexity and balanced flavours of the wine.
