2015 Jones Winery & Vineyard Durif
“Durif and Rutherglen – what a match. The rich tannins and flavours the climate oozes out of the variety, and the skilled winemaking, make one hell of an overlap of nature, science and creativity in a bottle.” – Mandy Jones, Winemaker
This wine is rich and bright with deep, complex aromas of blackberries and mulberries with meaty overtones. The palate is sturdy and svelte with a pleasing balance of freshness and savoury, bold tannins. Enjoyable now, but will benefit from further ageing.
Made from estate-grown durif vines that are 6 years old. The grapes were harvested by hand on 25th February 2015, fermented in open vats, hand-plunged then pressed. Malolactic fermentation and maturation were carried out barrel. The wine was matured in 470-liter, one-year old French oak barrels for 18 months. Prior to bottling it was fined with egg white. Alc. 14%, cellaring well for up to 12 years.
A wine that is great with all red meat dishes, especially a simple grilled steak, roast venison or lamb shanks.
At the lunch table after a long winter walk.
