We’re busy in the vineyard getting ready for harvest. The grapes are beginning to change colour so it’s time to get the bird netting on or we won’t have any 2018 wine!
Netting is a big job with extra hands needed to help. Between each season the netting has to be stored correctly to make it easier to unroll when needed. If you have fruit trees you’ll know how easily the netting snags and tears. We use two methods of netting: ‘side’ netting which only covers the fruiting area of the vines, and ‘over the row’ netting that drapes over the entire row of vines or multiple rows. The draping looks very dramatic when being done.
